There are hundreds of organizations in the world, all with their own ideas of world championships. You will get a list of many people but to be honest with you there is absolutely no single world champion...just some associations that are more reputable than others. For example:

The World Karate Federation considers themselves to be the only official World Championships for Karate...but NASKA, NBL and WUKO all have their own world champions and they do not recognize the WKF as being the best.

There will never be a single world champion because of politics and money which is a shame.
