When 175 Newton bag of nails hangs motionless from a single vertical strand of rope?

How much tension is exerted in the strand?

10 Newton's = 1 kg, so you're talking about 17.5 kg of mass hanging off the rope.

How to Hang a Bear Bag

Proper way to hit a punching bag without hurting hand?

I have a punching bag hanging from the ceiling in my basement. I use some good quality (i think) gloves but i find that after a few punches it starts to hurt my knuckle. How I punch it for periods of time without hurting my knuckles?

All the other posters are right in their opinions so far.

You should hit with the front two knuckles and make sure you hand is lined up with your arm.

Punch straight and do not bend your wrist. Hand wraps also help keep the bones in the hands together and prevent injury.

The reason you hit with the front two knuckles is because the bones in hand and arm will be lined up if your hand and arm are lined up properly.

This prevents injury and also provides a more solid punch.
