Ball Spring Action

Do billiard balls go bad?
At the break, the balls seem to stay clustered moreso than on other tables. I thought my rails or bumpers had lost spring, but it seems more likely that the balls are dead as they don't have a lot of action from the rackpoint. Do billiard balls have a rubber or cork core like other types of balls i.e. golf and baseball?
Billiard balls can vary quite a bit depending on manufacturer and the product line. But, I wouldn't say that they go bad.
They can go "out of round" and wear with age. More commonly, balls stick together and increase the friction at the contact points if they are not cleaned. I suppose that it may be possible for UV light to have some effect on the way the ball plays. It can certainly cause discoloration. That takes many years of normal use though.
My thoughts on the problem and possible causes...
The person with the rack in their hands is the single biggest factor.
Slow cloth or worn cloth is a big factor in the amount of action and the ability to get a decent rack to sit on the table. (I think they should Taser anyone who taps a ball into the footspot.) If the rack area looks worn, that will slow down the reaction of the balls.
Weight of the balls can have a big effect, particularly the weight of the cue ball in relation to that of the object balls. And, for that matter, the weight of the balls in relation to each other. Billiard ball sets are usually matched up to reduce the weight differences. However, as soon as they hit the pool hall, that goes out the window. There can be some relatively large differences in the weights of the balls.
As you said, cushions have a big effect.
The cleanliness of the balls and the cloth is also a factor.
The last thing that I can think of at the moment, humidity and temperature. Cold and damp is not good conditions for humans or pool tables.

Pinball Gottlieb Spring Break in action (ball view)
Should I be a Fullback?
Hey everyone, Right now i'm starting the 2nd week of spring trainning and as of right now i'm playing center. I honestly don't really like it since i don't see much action at all. I would say i'm the fastest of our line including varsity players. I am 5'10 190lbs I played mid field in lacrosse last year so i have stamina and speed. I'm 15 and going to play Junior Varsity. I can block pretty well and am pretty tough, I can perform short distance sprints very very well and can catch the ball. So what do you think would i be a good fullback? If not please tell me the position you think i would be good at along with some tips. Thanks!
I also like to make big plays and take on responsibility well. I just want a job that i will get glory for.
I was asking about if my weight height speeds meets the area where i want to be as a fullback..
if ur looking for glory then u gotta try out for fullback....tight end also sounds like a good position for you because you're tall for ur age...i played line for 4 years and i loved it...i loved playing d too but i loved line a lot cuz the coaches gave us a lot of credit for the plays that were made on the field
i think if ur looking for glory and for making huge impact plays that you're noticed for you should look for a spot at fullback or tight end
hope that helps
and yes you fit the criteria for a fullback as well as a tightend and a center or guard if you take out the playmaking abilities

Ben: The “flap” is the launcher. Some rings have a notch which can accommodate the flap (held flat vertically). The spring action launches the ring: pull back and fling the ring. OK explanation? I’m sleepy… Haven’t launched a ring since high school, either. Regards.

I honestly feel that I'm faster on fatter tires, also on pavement.
In the flemmish classic bike races, riders go from 23 to 25mm tires, at slightly lower pressure. And that already is worth it on the cobblestones. I think they need to take it to 30 to 35mm. It's not like they are going so fast that the air drag would be a factor. Cobble stones are the deciders there, so why try and ignore them?
With suspension on a bike, the damping is what can slow the rider down, the spring action gives something back in most cases. Lifting a wheel over a root is faster than letting the suspension do it for you.
