Concrete pad weight bearing specs. How thick do i need to go to support 115,000 lbs?
I'm pouring a concrete pad for a very large printing press and i'm wondering how thick it should be and what compaction i need for the substrate? The pad will be 50 feet x 8 feet and the customer wants a min 12" thick. Do you think this will be suffice? Its a large job and i don't want to have to re-do it, naturally. The drawings they provided are straight forward. Something else i should note is that the pad will float(so to speak) inside another pad. Basically i'm cutting the existing concrete slab and repouring the area with thicker concrete, but the new concrete must float inside of the existing slab. The edges of the old pad will be lined with a steel plate on all 4 sides to prevent bonding. I just need to know, from someone who knows, if 12" will be good enough if we can get decent compaction below it. I believe that the plans call for 100% compaction. Is this realistic? Thanks so much in advance.
You need to hire a structural engineer for that answer. It will be hard for anyone to give a good answer to that question if they do not have access to what you are trying to do. Only thing a person can do is speculate. If I was a speculate, I would say no because I do not know what soil you have, how is the printing press loaded on the area, whats the bearing capacity of the soil, strength of concrete, and conditions of the project. There is too little information to make a decision on what will work.
