Boxing Gloves HeavyBag

Should I wear padded gloves to hit the heavybag?
I hit the heavybag around 3 times per week.
I wrap my hands, then wear light speedbag gloves to protect against abrasions.
My wrists are starting to hurt and feel tender.
Am I an idiot for not wearing padded gloves when I whack the heavybag?
I train for exercise and self defense, not to spar or box anyone.
Am I way out of line for training in handwraps only, or is this an acceptable way of doing things? If it's not uncommon, I'll just let my hands/wrists heal up; if it is idiotic, I'll get myself some padded gloves. What sort of gloves would suit my purposes?
hand wraps should be fine .....but they do have heavy bag gloves if you would like some

Boxing Secrets - Learn how to train with heavybag Round 2
What kind of boxing gloves/wraps do I get?
I just joined a boxing gym to use their weights, but I'm interested in using their speedbag and heavy bad for training. They also have classes to take to get in shape. I want to get a decent pair, but light weight I could use for the heavybag as well as classes. Also, what wraps do I get, are they disposable or reusable wraps? If you could post a link I'd appreciate it!
Training gloves are used for sparring, get bag gloves for any and all bag/mitt work. Bag gloves have denser padding to provide more protection and so that they won't wear out as easily. Anything in the "super" bag glove variety is fine. You don't want to waste your time with antique style slip ons.
For wraps, any mexican style wraps are fine, those are the 180 inch variety. You'll just have to practice at this a bit.
