Kids boxing (mother trouble)?

Hello yahoo is boxing safe for kids as im on my sons yahoo acc that i let him use he is 11 years old and he has asked me he wants to box i was quite freaked out at first but got more carm but im still freaked what should i say to him.

will boxing be ok for him

Eleven is certainly old enough, and boxing is great for any child who is self-motivated and wants to box. However, eleven might be a little young for contact, that that is irrelevant for now.

If he starts boxing now, he can spend a year or two training: focusing on his footwork, his defense, and learning how to punch correctly. He wouldn't have to start sparring, or run the risk of being hit, until he is older and his skills are honed. At such a young age, he would have a tremendous advantage over other fighters in later years. His muscles are still growing, so training his body to punch properly would become ingrained in his muscle memory. Furthermore, I've found that young kids who start boxing are often more confident in themselves, and if they have a good trainer and belong to a good gym, are actually less likely to get into fights outside of the ring.

There are some cons. He shouldn't weight train until he older and fully finished with puberty. Lifting too early can actually stunt the development of muscles and prevent height gain. Also, if he does star sparring and fighting, it shouldn't be too often until he is older. Young fighters aren't that powerful, and they do wear thick headgear, but the cumulative effect of being punched for years and years starting at a very young age can be damaging long term.

Final conclusion: find a good gym, let the kid train to get himself into a routine that will keep him in shape and sharpen his punching ability and defense, and a while down the road, let him lace the gloves up and put his hard work to use in the ring.

What are some good things to do while boxing?

well tomarrow we are having a bunch of kids box. I am confident in my strength but i havent really boxed alot. I am just wondering if anyone has any tips.

Skipping is a good one for warm up and exercise (cardio)

1 Punching and 1 holding a bag or pads for 30 seconds then swap.
