How teachable is a cat?
I have a cat, Emma, who is about 7 years old (she's the type with extra digits on her paws). I think this is actually two questions. First, if I were to get a new cat, how much can I teach this cat? I've heard stories of potty-training, but that's not what I'm getting at since I don't mind a cat-box. I'm talking more about some basic commands, like, "Come!" or "Sit!" or "Go away!" and the like. Secondly, as much as I like my mitten-kitten, sometimes it's a hassle to get up or cross the room, etc. when she gets into something or decides to cruise the countertops, or starts playing with something she shouldn't.
It really depends on a number of things - the breed, their temperament, their history of how they were treated, how they are disciplined/how they are praised, etc.
I would suggest searching the web on how to train cats.
