Boxing Muay Thai

I started Muay Thai Boxing about two months ago?

When should I start taking competitions and stuff? I can't do any competitions or matches for about two years (due to braces and a jaw surgery coming-up next year).

Also, in Thai matches do they wear MMA-style gloves or boxing gloves or just barely padded gloves?

Thank you for your help. I do spar, but we don't go all out. We just go hard enough to turn the other cheek.

if you can't compete for two years, then i would probably ad at least a year onto that mark until your ready to compete maybe more. I'm assuming you don't spar since you need jaw surgery, and have braces. They do have mouth guards for people with braces, (just throwing that out there) Muay Thai fights are with boxing gloves.

Are there any Thai Boxing or Muay Thai classes in London for under 18s?

I've heard about Muay Thai from the film Ong Bak (which was amazing) now I want to pratice and learn it. Or does anyone know of a way of searching for classes and not Timeout London of Yellow pages site because they are useless. Thanks

What Tony Jaa does in Ong Bak isn't Muay Thai. It has influences from Muay Thai but also draws on many other martial arts. Overall it's just very good acrobatic styles. If you want to learn something like it don't restrict yourself to just looking for Muay Thai. Shop around. Remember, there is no superior martial art, just different levels of ability within the practisers own martial art.

   If you want to get fit, if you want to loose weight, you will have to discipline yourself. If you workout once a week or run once a week , it is'nt going to help you and on the contrary your body goes through a “shock.” I am 57 years old, I go for Muay Thai and Boxing everyday except Sundays. On top of that I do my karate training once a week. In my free-time I do dumb bells to improve my punching power. I watch videos on boxing, muay thai and other martial arts. It is all about being passionate in what you do.

   So don't be a “NATO” member….get to work…my advice to young aspiring members.

   There really is no better kick, but maybe it would depend on outside factors. For example, is your opponent big? If your opponent is big, a powerful slow kick would be more effective to hurt him. If you opponent is small, a slow kick might not land and so a faster kick have to be employed.
