Boxing Sanshou Mma
Righthanded but Southpaw.?
Despite being right handed, I'm a lot more comfortable with a southpaw stance, rather than an orthodox stance.
Can anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of being a righthanded southpaw fighter in:
1) Boxing
2) Muay Thai
3) Sanshou
4) MMA
Advantages: a strong jab.
Disadvantages: a weaker cross.
That applies to all arts mentioned above.
I'm also a right-handed who fights southpaw, so I know how you feel.
Mirko Cro cop Filipovik is known for devastating strikes (specially his left kick), and he's right handed too.

What do you have against MMA?
I here that Traditional martial artist are against Mixed martial arts.
Why ?, Isn't MMA a combination of Traditional Martial arts, such as
Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Sanshou, Karate, Judo, Wrestling,
Sambo and Brazilian Jiu jitsu (Don't Say that Wrestling is not a martial
art because I have seen it defeat many other forms of martial arts).
And yes I know MMA it isn't martial art but it is a Fighting style. People just call it sport but it can also be used to defend yourself in the street.
planb72 - Umm...there are many fighters that are Blackbelt in Karate and Brazilian Jiu jitsu.
I have nothing in particular against MMA's or most of the guys who really train it. I have a lot of respect for people on here like Judomofo, clowns, Rear Naked Joke, Tao J, etc.
My main problem with it is the posers and fanboys it create's, and also people who have trained for less then a year, yet feel qualified to say that BJJ or Muay Thai is superior to any other art, when you have had no true exposure to any of the arts that you talk bad about, or at least no exposure to it done correctly. How can you put down something you do not know about? I know you have an instructor that studied karate for many years, however who is to say if he was taught corretcly? Many posers, fanboys, and fledgling MMA people simply parrot what they hear others say, without any first hand knowledge.
MMA's also makes the average fan think they are an expert on every facit of the martial arts, when in reality they only see a small portion of martial arts in the ring. they do not even train, yet they fell qualified to come on here and put down styles that are not heavily reperesented in the UFC or MMA's in general. Many of them can't even spell the style's right. I have seen so many variations on Muay Thai it is laughable.
I am not saying it does not happen on the other side of the coin, and many traditional people need to get their panties out of a bunch, however how do you expect a person who has trained a martial art for 30+ years, even 20+ years, when people are disrespecting the art he has studied as being useless, when maybe he has used it in situations in the past and it has worked just fine? Wouldn't you be upset? I think it's obvious that you would just from this question. Many are scared because it has become so popular, and feel the need to put it down, because they have a business and they dont want to lose it. Other's are scared because maybe it has made them question how effective their own training is, and whether it is up to speed. These are all natural human reactions, and it is not just traditional people that have them, as evidenced by your question.
In fact your question is kind of hypocritical because I have seen you make the statement that karate is ok but not as good as BJJ. Why should karate people not be upset over that, the same way you are upset over people disrespecting MMA?
I myself have seen you make the statement that BJJ is better then karate, base dsimply on what your instructor has said. Why don't you actually find a good Okinawan karate class and train and see for yourself? Now a little secret...not all people take martial arts to learn how to fight..
1) Tell the man that takes Tai Chi, that has given him something to focus on to get over the loss of his family, and kept him sane, that it is useless.
2) Tell a person with a substance abuse problem that overcomes it with the help of god and the discipline of karate that it is useless.
3) Tell the kid with the learning disability that even the McDojo he is going to is worthless even though he is doing much better in school and even making friends because of the training.
I am also not saying that MMA's will not give someone the exact same thing as the above, I beleive it will, however it is not the only thing.
So I have nothing against MMA's, or the people who train it, because it is intense and very demanding, and requires everything that a traditonal style does, the only problem I have are the people who disrepect other styles, without a first hand knowledge of it.
So if you really wonder why traditonal people disrepect MMA, look in the mirror and ask why do you feel the need to disrepect traditional arts?
Edit- Look no further then gd g who answered this question to see what I am talking about. Never seen him on here before. Never seen him answer a technique question whatsoever. That is the attitude many have a problem with.
