Boxing Southpaw Amateur

I live in Chicago...What can I do to become an amateur boxer?
I'm 18 years old. I have been interested in boxing all my life. Look I'm not saying I want to turn pro and become the next Floyd Mayweather. I would just like to train and maybe get a couple amateur fights under my belt.
Does anyone know of any good boxing gyms in Chicago? What do I do just walk in and tell them of my intentions?
I know its completely different but I been in street fights and I can take a punch. What would some expenses be?
I'm 5'9 145 lbs. Skinny guy but got a good build. I run everyday and I played Free Safety for my High School football team. I believe I have the heart to do it. I'm also a southpaw.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hey:
Here's a list, good luck! It's the best workout. Keep that right up!
