Carry Storage Bag
Help finding luggage storage and most economical transportation.?
I am traveling to U.K for first time with my 2 sisters,and our first stop is Glasgow then on to London and then to Dundee. My problem is how to carry all our bags, since we will be only staying at each hotel no longer than 2 days, and what would be the best (safest and most economical) transportation? Would renting a car be better than public transportation? I know I am asking a lot of questions (please excuse my ignorance) I am grateful for any advice. Thanks!
I'm assuming you're flying in and flying out from Glasgow and so have chosen to do a kind of circle instead of going from Glasgow to Dundee and then to London. If not, it's a very round about way and you lose precious sigh-seeing time.
Anyway, about your baggage problem. I suggest calling the hotels you will be staying in and asking if they provide temporary luggage storage. Some do, some don't. If not, you can always check a nearby train station or bus depot. They often have lockers that you pay a certain amount to rent (by the hour or by the day).
Speaking of bus depots, I think buses are the best way to travel in a city. It's pretty cheap and you get to meet the locals and see what it's really like in the city, not just the tourist's view. It may seem a bit daunting at first since you don't know the schedules and where each line goes but if you visit the Information Center/Tourist Booth they can give you all the information you need. The one I went to even wrote down for me every bus that would take me back to my hostel, at what times, and where I should wait for it. The one in Glasgow is located at 11 George Square.
Oh, and to get to London I recommend traveling by overnight coach. It's the cheapest way and saves you from paying for another night in a hotel. It takes a while (about 8 hours) and it's not as comfortable as a train but I went to Edinburgh from London and back again and I had no complaints. It's at night when you can't go sightseeing anyway and you sleep the whole time so I think it's a great way to go. Plus the drivers were really friendly (there were 2) and when one wasn't driving he'd come up and down the aisle talking and joking with passengers.
