what are some good excercises to do to become a boxer?

i'm 15 years old and would like to start boxing this summer. but i wanna get a little bit more in shape before i go at it. what are some good excercises to become a boxer? i know any excercise is good but, i want tough, challenging excercises, specially for girl boxers! lol thanks!! :P

I have a lot of respect for boxers because of their training and conditioning. They have to be in peak shape to compete in the sport.

Lots of cardio work is important. The first time to punch a punching bag for a few minutes you will be surprised at just how important cardio is to boxing. Thats why so many fighters do tons of running, jumping rope, etc. Jumping rope and running would definitely put you ahead of the game.

Aside from cardio, I would also do some upperbody work like pushups. Really, weights aren't all that necessary because I don't think most fighters are bulky. Most have long, lean muscles. Pushups, dips, and some light weights (like curls, bench presses, etc) are plenty. If you use weights, go for lighter weights but higher reps.

Also, like someone else said, stomach conditioning is extremely important, especially if you plan to spar. Even the most well conditioned fighters can be dropped from a well placed shot to the midsection (Oscar De La Hoya for example). You definitely should do plenty of situps/crunches and other ab drills. Trying adding variations to your situps by twisting as you come up, that will work the sides of your stomach. Also do leg lifts to work the lower abs.

Hope that helps. Good luck to you.
