Fighter Fight I am a tall fighter, how should a tall fighter fight and box?
I'm 6 foot, fight 145lb amateur MMA, and I'm 1-0. With my size and length advantage and my favorite weapon the jab, how should I fight? Should I just stay back and wait for them to attack and keep them off with my jab or should I be more aggressive. But when I attack I seem to miss and get countered. My coach has given me a good game plan but I just want to hear more options from other tall fighters. So what are some options, tips, and attacks for a tall fighter to use?
Use leg kicks to force them into aggression. Then as they come in, you throw your jab and move. If your jab connects solid and stiff, you stick around and throw a combination, then move again. Repeat.
High low, or low high, my friend. Start out sunk deeper into your stance than you normally would be. When your opponent moves on you, the moment he starts throwing, get tall. Don't jump up or get too tall, but close the distance between your feet a bit and possibly bend your knees slightly less (depending on how you were standing before) so that your whole body elevates just a tad bit. What happens then is your opponent's strike hits your chest or shoulder rather than your head, and you can come right over the top of his punch with a shot of your own. Alternatively, start tall in your stance, and when they start throwing on you, sink. Drop right under his initial shots and tear into his body, but be weary of knees or low kicks. Keep playing at that, quickly and efficiently. If you can find a medium, a middle ground on how deep and how high you are, so that you can go either above or below his strikes, then keep with that - he'll never know how to hit you accurately.
If your boxing is solid, don't bother using kicks any higher than leg level, period. There's no reason that with that kind of reach and striking skill with your hands for you to endanger your balance and run the risk of getting taken down.
Practice your inside work, and boxing at shorter distances. A good fighter that knows how to cut down distances and get under your reach, can and very well may shred you at the short ranges if you don't learn how to fight there. Work with the clinch and with "dirty boxing" against the cage or ropes - defending, attacking, escaping, changing position. Short hooks, uppercuts, elbow hooks, and elbow uppercuts can be your friends when someone gets on your inside.
A striker with reach and who knows how to use that reach will be a force. People will want to get you on your back. Work take down defense, for obvious reasons.
These are just some observations and opinions of mine, you're welcome to take or leave any of it.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike - Fight for the Future (part 1)
I did not watch this episode of Idol, but from reading what happened, I can see how Little Sister Bowersox probably ticked them off. They are VERY controlling and just “too much” most times.
She is an independent Spirit, not even needing IDOL to make it big. She was already known here and there, and not because of her superficial looks and such, but from her GIFTS and TALENTS..dah!!!
She probably does have health issues, and they are judging her to not being able to be a STAR because of it, I am sure.
She is the only one in her league, that performs consistently fantastic. It is only because she is truly a natural, gifted in all ways to do what she is doing.
She is not TRYING, it is completely HER>>I LOVE IT, and I love it that they can try to shake, rattle and roll her positive SPIRITS away, and she is a FIGHTER, and will fight that…
the very OTHER GIFT that makes her who she is.
I APPLAUD HER>>>>Kick Idol in the booty if you have to ..and MOVE on …YOU ARE A STAR>>LITTLE SIS BOWERSOX>>and nothing…
big dogs, little dogs, will STOP YOU..
WE LOVE HER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>even more for her INDEPENDENT ALL AMERICAN GIRL SPIRIT>>>WHOO HOO!!!!

I would say the “average” MMA fan is looking for the KO not the grappling and the tech side of MMA
