Gel Hand Wraps Whats the difference between normal shedding of your hair and breakage?
Ok I use to perm my hair but I stop and now I am goin natural Ok I take my vitamins everyday and I use a wide tooth comb I never brush it, I use the comb and I use Garnier fructis fortying shampoo and Garnier fructis creme conditioner,and the Garnier fructis Gel curl definer. The hot oil I use is Jojaba oil and I also use Lustrasilk right on curl for my hair, its just 5 products. At night I braid my hair up and this morning when I softly took the braids and comb softly like strands of hair came out in my comb and in my hand and when I touch my hair for a few mins and then it stop. I wrap my hair with a satin silk scarf and sometimes it comes off but I also got a satin silk pillow. So if anybody can tell me if its breakage are not or is it shredding, because I trim my hair once a week even though it suppose to be every 6- 8 weeks.
We all shed some hair every day. We normally lose about 80 or more hairs a day. That may seem a lot, but it doesn't all come out at once, but slowly throughout the day.
If you were to look at the hair closely, you will see at one end a bulb like appearance. It will be slightly fatter right at the end. That is the part that was in the root, and which came off when the hair is shed. That is normal. Sometimes you will see that when you pull a hair out, although you often get other things attached to the root as well.
A broken hair has no bulb on the end. It is the same on either end. It looks almost cut. It will be rather short.
Sometimes your hair can be quite brittle (are you African-American?) and when you braid it, and sleep on it, crushing your hair, it may actually break off during the night. You may need to use a good moisturizer, not an oil, but something that keeps water in the hair to keep it softer and supple. When it is dry, it will snap so easily -- by crushing it or by combing it.
Try this experiment: take some of the hair that comes out and bend it sharply. Does it break? Can you stretch it? How far before it breaks? Does it snap off, or stretch first and then break?
Because it is so hard to see your hair from here, I would suggest that you have a consultation with a professional hair stylist that works with hair of your type, and can take a look and see if it is actually breaking off or being shed. They may recommend some treatments, or other things you can do. Be careful that they know what they are talking about and not trying to sell you something! You may have to see 2 or 3 stylists to get a complete picture.
