why must pro fight gloves be lace up?


and not hook and loop? also why must they be taped around the wrist before a match?

Lace up gloves are not only traditional but they provide a much more secure and comfortable fit. Pro fighters or even amateur bouts aren't being held between two individuals in some seclusion away from anyone except the fighters, they have corners who can lace the gloves for them.

The tape secures the gloves again, prevents the laces from being accidentally untied, and most importantly prevents anyone from tampering with the glove. The idea of taping around the wrist isn't to protect fighters from laces but from slipping something in the glove.

    chanteuse is correct……hook and loop is basically velcro. if you're gonna do hardcore sparring you might put a couple wraps of duct tape around the velcro so you don't scratch the bejeezuz out of your sparring partner. if you are just doing light sparring then no worries.
