how to clean hockey goalie gear that stinks and is 10 years old?
My friend gave me a big bag of hockey goalie gear to use, and she hasnt opened the bag in 10 years. I opened it today and it had mold and a stinky nasty smell to it (smelled like puke) the leg pads are in excellent condition, no problems there. but the helmet, glove catcher and blocker, and chest pad stinks like hell! i did a test and soaked the catcher and blocker and helmet in water with downey overnight, then i'm air drying it right now. it kinda masks the smell but not really eliminates it. i dont want to get a disase or antyhing when wearing it. what should i do? i also sprayed everything down with lysol. Im in asia and there arent any professional gear cleaners here like in the US/Canada. I read online i could put it in a huge tub/trashcan and soak it in water and chlorine. not sure if it'll discolor the gear, though.
update: i just smelled the catcher, its half dry and half smells like downey and other half smells like puke.. HELP!
Don't know about the catcher and blocker, but you can wash anything else in the washing machine except helmet and skates. If the helmet is a big issue put it in the dishwasher. I would be reluctant to put anything leather in the washer like the catcher or blocker, but if it's desperate i guess you don't have a lot of options.

Does boxing give you muscles?
I bought a punching bag and some gloves a couple months ago. Ever since, I've been punching for 15mins five days a week. My arms are huge now and I'm just wondering if they are muscles or arm mass. I really don't want to build muscles because when i into my 30s or 40s, I'll stop working out and my muscles will turn into fat.
Please don't tell me they're muscles. If they are, is there any way I can just tone my arms without building muscles? I heard a Speed Ball Double End Punching Ball can tone arms without building muscles.
Boxing shouldn't be making your arms bigger. It should be making them stronger, faster and give you more endurance, but not larger.
If you are power punching the bag and lifting it up in the air, then that is whats causing your muscle mass. Try throwin fast punches on your bag or switch to a speed bag.
BTW.....Large muscles dont turn into fat when you get older, but they do cause your skin to stretch and become larger.....in turn when you age and the muscles wither away you are left with hanging skin that usually will fill with fat or hang loose.....either way....you dont want that.
