sparring question?
i was just wondering what sparring equipment you wear at your studio.
for me it is:
black belts - we wear headgear, mouthguard, shin guards, hand and foot protectors, and for boys a cup.
everyoneelse that spars(green and up)- they wear chest guard, headgear, mouthguard, shin guards, hand and foot protectors, and boys wear a cup.

Well today versus the old days is far different.
The old days we wore no head gear, just white padded cloth on our hands, no foot hear, mouth gear and groin protection.
THAT was it.
Now with Insurances and such most have to dress like a foam pad its horrible!

I am currently taking karate. I have not started sparring yet, but will soon. Do I need any other padding or protection besides the basics (helmet, hands, feet, stomach, mouth)? I know that they DO sell women's groin guards, as well as chest protectors. Do you really need them?

I've taken karate for many years and only used head, feet and hand pads and a mouth guard with not problems. (I really only use hand pads and a mouth guard any more) You can invest in other pads such as stomach, chest and groin pads if they make your more comfortable or if you need special protection in those areas but they are not really needed otherwise

Good questions, very good questions. I'd like to see how they squirm out of these myself. Trust me, they will, or just ignore you. One point you need to remember, as much as Christians do it, so do the Muslims, "preacher said" carries the same authority as God, and is not to be questioned. You must have dreamed these things up to cause a problem. Be quiet infidel or Allah will get you, might very well be a line of reply for your questions. Watch out for an effort to twist the points of your questions into something else, they tend to do that as well. There is also just good old fashioned denial.
