The helmet used in the last century by the British Army looks to have offered limited protection in terms of coverage compared with the American and German models. Particularly to the back and side of the head. Also the brim looks likely to catch on vegetation etc. This is of course a seperate issue to penetration resistance and comfort. Was it really as deficient as it looked? Is there any informed information on the subject?
The old helmet design was poor
but todays kevlar helmet is not designed to stop a bullet, to do that it would too heavy to wear for any length of time. They can stop flying fragments (Normally called shrapnel but this is a misnomer) at a speed of 500 metres per second (Taken from the standard NATO agreement figures - STANAG)
The old helmet didn't catch on vegetation but the brim did mean that when in the prone position while wearing a pack the brim would be pushed forward forcing the head down. a very bad design fault!

Duplicate the wet gloss of carnauba with a paint sealant! Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection delivers a high gloss shine in an easy-to-apply, liquid paint sealant. The synthetic sealant with Polycharger polymers offers months of protection and a depth of shine similar to a carnauba wax. Polycharger makes it better! Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection contains Polycharger polymers to boost shine, durability, and protection. Polycharger is already added to the formula. Enjoy slicker, shinier results with Polycharger!Traditionally, paint sealants did not offer the kind of head-turning shine that are characteristic of carnauba waxes. However, if you wanted speedy application and long-term durability, a paint sealant was and is the only way to go. Four Star married the best characteristics of both polymer sealants and carnauba wax into their Ultimate Paint Protection paint sealant. Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection?s proprietary formula shields your vehicle?s paint from environmental pollution, hard water, acid rain, salt, and UV rays. The slick, shiny finish lasts for several months through numerous washes with a nonalkaline car wash. Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection?s finish has the depth and reflectivity that was formerly only available from a carnauba wax. The sealant works beautifully on all colors and types of paint. To apply Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection, apply a thin coat by hand with a polyfoam applicator. For machine application, we recommend using a Porter Cable 7424XP with a blue finessing pad working at a low speed. UPP can be applied to the entire vehicle before buffing. Use a Cobra Deluxe Microfiber Bonnet over a lambswool pad or a Cobra Microfiber Towel to remove the sealant. Four Star UPP can be layered over itself or a carnauba topper can be applied on top of the sealant once it is cured for additional wetness and gloss. Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection is an excellent value for a premium paint sealant. It only takes a very small amount to protect your entire vehicle. With the durability of a sealant and the shine of a carnauba, Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection is in a class all its own. 16 oz.

Head Protection Testing
Off the top of your head do you know what THE DATA PROTECTION ACT IS?
Today, Increasing numbers of employers make their employees sign the Data Protection act. It's not a matter of joice but legal necessity. About 60 % of jobs involve the handling of confidential information involving the public and so employees need to sign the data protection act which makes the way they handle this data legally binding. A breech of the data protection act can land you in court or jail.
yes, do you want an explanation? Not clear, basically it means you will not divulge any personal information that you know about, nor allow anyone to access personal information that they are not entitled to see.
E.g your doctors notes are covered by the data protection act. The information that is held must be fair, adequate and not excessive, can be altered if it is wrong, the person is entitled to see it, must be used for the purpose for which it was collected, not held any longer than is necessary, must be up to date, must be kept secure.
It's a law so if you break the law, for example by telling your friend you know personal stuff about so and so, then you are breaking the law and yes you can end up in court.
I disagree with this opinion. Cyclists should never be allowed on the sidewalks. No exceptions. Not even one.
Almost everyday I am nearly run over by cyclists on our sidewalks when I am walking up Gordon Street, a street which we all have spent a good dollar on implementing bike lanes.
I fail to understand why fully grown adults would insist on using the sidewalks when there are perfectly safe bike lanes there for them. To make matters even more infuriating, the cyclists I see all have helmets on when on the sidewalks too, which I find ironic given that because of that fact they're wearing head protection, they are obviously concerned with their own well-being, but clearly couldn't give a toss about the safety of the pedestrians!?
The other day, a man in his mid to late 40s nearly ran me into traffic as he sped full speed past me head-on, clearly not concerned with my safety. And behind me in tow, were a young couple walking a small dog and child.
These cyclists nothing but a menace. Throw the book at them. Yes, cycling is “environmentally friendly” biking is – but there is no form of transportation with a lower carbon footprint than walking. How about Guelph getting on board with “pedestrian friendly initiatives”?
Meantime, it is high time cyclists, which are vehicles in themselves and can cause injury and accident, are made to be insured and educated properly in the rules of the road, just like motorists. They do this in most nations in western Europe, why not here?
I think the cars behaved as well as anyone has any reason to expect them. The wheel seemed to take th bulk of the impact so it is no surprise it came off. I have long argued for proper head protection in single seaters. It seems crazy to me that so much effort went into moving drivers' feet out of danger while leaving their heads exposed.
To me the only thing that should be looked at in this particular accident is the angle of the wall Clarke hit. The only reason I could see for it angling back towards the track is that there is a tree there. I hope that is not the reason.
We really need to have walls parallel or angling away from the track.
