Heavy Canvas Punching
What Punching Bag to Get?
Buying a new punching bag and not sure what type to get. I've been reading good things about water filled bags (feel like hitting a human, doesn't cut your knuckles, punch absorption) and also heavy bags (synthetic, leather or canvas, leather being the most expensive). I'm 5'5 125 lbs. Looking at hanging bags only, unless you want to change my mind.
So first off what type should I get for mostly just punching routines and workouts (minimal kicking)? Water filled or Heavy and what weight?
What brands should I be looking at that will last?
What brand of bag gloves should I look at as well?

well i have hit alot of those canvas hanging bags and they do cut your knuckles wich sucks. i really like the freestanding water filled bags cause there heavy and it takes alot to knock around and if you can you know your strong. and if you wanna know techniques or training regimens go to youtube and type in kickboxing techniques and that will show you some good training to work with it. most videos break down the exercise so you know your kicking and punching right

Most brutal one-punch knockout in history..
Getting my first punching bag and have questions?
I am planning on getting about a 60 lb. or 70 lb. heavy bag. Yet, should I get vinyl or canvas? Also, does it make that much of a difference if I use hand wraps instead of gloves?
First off, well done on making the decision to get a heavy bag. you're on the road to fitness.
Now, if you're planning on getting a good heavybag, best to maybe take a peak inside a boxing gym. You'll see that almost all of the bags in there are made from vinyl (however my hb at home is made from canvas) I've found that vinyl bags are more expensive, but last a lot longer. If you're first starting out, get the lighter one, because you may not have the proper punching technique yet and will only hurt your wrists if you hit the heavier bag incorrectly.
Now for the other part of your question, you should always wrap your hands properly adn wear bag gloves 10-16Oz (or up to450grams) gloves for heavy bag training. this is to protect your hands as wraps will never be enough to protect your hands alone. the only bag you can hit wearing only wraps is the speedball. If you learn how to wrap your hands properly, you should never get cut knuckles or chafing (tip: try to buy elasticated wraps, they let give your hands room to expand when you punch, plus they are far more comfortable.) Wow! That's an impressive little summary you have going there. The mixed bag is very interesting how all that played out. I was doing some research on the caucuses this morning myself … I knew there was nothing definite or concrete about them, but I was almost tickeled at how silly they seemed:)
Either way – 1) this will be an interesting year & 2) God is definitely in control (which definitely brings comfort when I look at all the 'potential' leaders of our free world)!
