Is Cassius Clay's survival of the 5th round against Liston one of the greatest feats in boxing history?

Liston was a killer, ask Floyd Patterson. He (and his handlers) were obviously cheating against Clay (Ali) in their first fight and blinded him with an illegal substance. I watched that fight AGAIN today and it amazes me how Ali survived and went on to destroy Liston.

Oh yes definitely! It's no joke fighting blind, especially against a killer like Sonny Liston.

Gamespot's History of Boxing Games part 1

Who in the history of boxing, regardless of their record had the biggest heart?

In terms of grit, honesty and never giving up. Who inspired you watching them leave everything in the ring?

Names like Michael Carbajal, Diego Corrales and Evander Holyfield immediately came to mind, their tenacity and will to win was bigger than life. I have huge respect for Muhammad Ali as well, his effort against Norton with a broken jaw over ten rounds was almost as impressive as the fact that he got up after Frazier pole axed him with that massive left hook in the Garden.

Then there is Rocky Marciano, a man with at best mediocre physical tools, but the will to win beyond anything I can describe. Rock found a way to be the only true undefeated heavyweight champion in boxing history against arguably far more skilled opposition, and Marciano wasn't really a true heavyweight. Rock had a 68 inch reach, and a heart as big as humanity, simply one of the very best to ever lace up the gloves.

Between Ali, Holyfield and Marciano, I really can't pick the one with the biggest heart, but I can say this.....few others in history showed more heart than these three. Gold, Silver and Bronze will always be an unending argument.
