Karate Boxing Muay
Is boxing or kyokushin karate better for muay thai?
So i've been doing muay thai for about 4 months now and well i regret it but i cant continue anymore because im moving houses and theres no muay thai classes close to me
Im only 17 and i wanna fight in the k1 or in australia/thailand as a muay thai fighter
I will go back to muay thai in about 2-3 years
But in the mean time i was wondering if i should do either Boxing or Kyokushin Karate, which would be better and why??
They're the only striking martial arts near my new house

im looking for something which will benefit me when i do muay thai after 2 years as sport and not for self defense
and to the person who said that i should do judo...wtf??
k1 is striking only and if i wanna fight in k1 why would i do a grappling art??
also both the places have good trainers
so its now a question of which one would benefit me more
If your goal is MuayThai competition, then I suggest taking the boxing.
I trained in Kyokushin myself and they focus on full body contact sparring, which allow kick to head but punches only allowed below throat (hence the full body contact sparring)
While Kyokushin is the least affected by McDojo-ism, I have heard report about some Kyo dojos that is practicing McDojo-ism, but yeah, Kyokushin is definitely one of the best style of Karate (in my opinion).
So it's all depend on the goal you set for the MA training. Boxing will definitely enhance your MuayThai, although I've seen a lot of boxer that then go to Kickboxing tournament and still only rely on their boxing skills and train their kicks very little.
Kyokushin sparring and tournaments are hold with the full body contact rules and punch to the face is forbidden. But I'm pretty sure that in a self defense situation, changing aim to go after the head is not that difficult, I mean George St.Pierre base is in Kyokushin and I've seen him punching people's head.

STAND UP STRIKERS (TKD, KARATE, MUAY THAI, ETC.): Do you fear GRAPPLERS?
If you just study a fighting style that is just focused mostly on standup fighting like: Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, etc., does the idea of facing a skilled grappler in the street scare you?
Now, if you have some grappling knowledge with standup striking I understand it's not that big of a problem.
But, for all of those who's arts don't practice much groundgrappling or none at all, does that bother you?
Does the 90% of all real fights go to the ground make you afraid of the ground? Or do you think your standup striking skills only will result in the grappler KO'd?
If they don't..... they should... or probably have not encountered such a problem and have no idea what its like to be totally out of their element on the ground. Ignorance is bliss. Just watch the original ufc stuff and what happened to the guys that only knew stand-up.
If they are lucky, they could land some good hits, but most likely they will only do a little damage and end up on the ground.
