Can you have a black belt in more than one style of martial arts?

Like Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do and Jiujitsu.

If yes, can you do them all at the same time?
Would they mess you up in the other styles if you knew more than one style?

Yes, you can have black belts in miltiple systems.

Yes, you can do them all at the same time (meaning you can learn them along side one another, if I get your meaning).

Sometimes they mess you up. I spent over a decade training in one type of karate, then had some difficulty adjusting to another one because the stances and footwork were different.

It's rare to find someone that has a high rank in more than one system. Most people who study multiple systems will have a high rank in one (5th degree black belt, for example) but lower ranks in others (2nd degre black belt, for example).

Not all martial arts use a belt ranking system, which was actually invented by the founder of Judo roughly 120 years ago. Muay Thai does not traditionally have belt ranks. Neither do many Chinese, South East Asian, or Western martial arts. Even systems that use belt rankings do not have the same standards. Hence the saying, not all black belts are created equal.

Vital Points in the Martial Arts $108.33 The term Dian Xue describes an ancient martial art of attacking vital points on the human body.    Isn't it ILLEGAL to use Shoto Tanemura's cover of his Ninpo Secrets book??? Considering its copyrighted material. I know he wouldn't of given permission for this video to have that picture in it.

   Nice intro post Den. From yesterday, Micki, you read the most artistic, poetic-sounding books. Although sumo wrestling was not one of the martial arts I had in mind. That's a weird one.Yes, Alan, the brain doctor I mentioned said with American-style boxing, the biggest cause of boxing's brain injuries is the gloves. Take off the gloves, he offered to some surprised reactons. Jeesus. I don't know, there's the hostility factor in any fighting sport. Kind up revs up those nasty aggressive feelings males can get. For both active participants and the viewer.

   First off, I want to congratulate you on doing a nice amount of research and really being serious about your search. You really are going to be choosing your "base art" here and you want to get it right. My base art is jujutsu, so no matter what other arts I learn about or train in my brain really processes them through the jujutsu lense and incorporating those arts into what I already know. This doesn't mean that I am not faithful to those other arts and I would never practice my jujutsu in their class or disagree with them about effectiveness in class. Your base art will forever color your journey. I just want to throw that out there for you as a bit of advice. Stick with whatever art you choose through at least shodan exclusively so that you really focus on developing that base. The sharper your focus on your base art, the clearer the lens that you will have while examining other arts later on.

   As to which of these two arts you choose as your base you probably can't go wrong, all things like instructor quality being equal. Most of the time, however, instructor quality is not equal. So go check out the places that teach these arts close to where you live and get a feel for the people that make up the dojo, the instructor and his methods, etc. You will get a feeling as to which place is right for you. There are jujutsu dojos that train in street attacks, weapons, etc. on a regular basis and there are those that stick to practicing mostly the techniques. Kaju schools will mostly drop kick you on the first day and work on both technique and toughness. So you could find a jujutsu school that fits what you want, or you might find a Kaju school that does. You won't know until you go and pay them a visit.
