What equipment should i buy to continue training MMA at home?

The school i attended is moving south and it was the only one around. I know the basic techniques. so my problem is what equipment is necessary for me to continue training MMA?

I recommend a heavy bag as well, however if you live in a trailer or apartment, a free standing bag, like a wave master will work as well.

you can also use a heavy bag for floor work, like a grappling dummy, except it doesn't have arms.
i would also suggest mark hatmaker's video- the floor bag workout: the ultimate solo training for grappler's and ground fighters; it teaches you an array of techniques and drills, you learn throwing techniques, knee rides, as well as grip strengthening-palm to palm, fat man grip, and three finger grip. getting in your guard n squeezing heavy bag to strengthen guard. http://www.paladin-press.com/product/79/11

as for stand up/striking, i'd recommend bas rutten's panther videos: http://www.centurymartialarts.com/Panther_DVDs/Extreme/Heavyweight_Champ_Bas_Rutens_Extreme_Pancrase_Series_Titles.aspx

he covers everything from footwork to evasions, striking and kicking.. heck for $6.99 a dvd you can't beat the price.. i recommend the whole series!

speed bag for eye/hand coordination
if you can afford it, bob bag is a great tool to practice chokes, strikes, etc. and it feels real. you can even do grappling drill where you get bob's back sink in rear naked choke n do spoon drill- two guys on each side of you rocking you from side to side, trying to shake you off of bob as you maintain rear naked choke.
if you plan to spar, make sure you have protective gear- head gear, mouth piece, well padded gloves, groin protectors, elbow pads..
if you can't afford all that, make sure you only go 20% with sparring.. you can always practice your power on your bags.
if you can't spar w/people who went to your gym, you can always find someone and exchange your knowledge for someone to roll with you. if not, the equipment and videos mentioned above will suffice.

my husband's 26 yrs of training has been mostly solo, unless he's training somebody, and he's very skilled, he's rolled and sparred with very knowledgable and talented people, that were professionally trained, and has always come out on top. and he's well respected for his skills in professional martial arts circles!

so solo training works, as long as you are committed and do your homework!

~*good luck*~

Answer my question on my MMA training?

is 2days of BJJ, 4 days of boxing, and 1 day of weights and cardio and resistant training(as well as cardio in the BJJ and Boxing), is this a good amount for MMA, as i want to be a Pro MMA fighter, im 16 now, around 5"9 - 5"10, about 152 pounds, i train roughly around 1.5 - 2hrs a days.

Is this a good amount or training if i want to be a pro fighter one day, or do i need to do more BJJ or Boxing or cardio ect...

You're right on track man. I'm an amateur MMA slash BJJ fighter and right now I'm taking time off to train my little brother who is your age. As young as you are, you're training plenty.

The one thing I do want to say though is, there are a lot of people out there saying a lot of different things about training MMA these days. MMA is exploding all around the country and everyone claims to be an expert. My suggestion is to ignore most of, if not all of, what other people are telling you and just do what feels right to you. You'll read in the magazines and online about all of these fighters ridiculous training regimens and diets. A good 75% of that is bullshit. You'll read about Luke Cummo who drinks his own pee, and Tito Ortiz who claims that you need to train at a mile above sea level to have decent cardio... It's all a bunch of hype. The important thing is just to do what feels right for you.

I think a lot of people over exaggerate their training routines to make them seem like super men. It's actually really simple though. Don't focus on getting huge. Weight train the way a fighter should. For endurance. Work on your cardio. That's the most important thing. Cardio cardio cardio. And spar often. Especially with open grappling. Nothing is going to take the place of experience. Not all the strength or stamina in the world.

But anyways, good luck man. Believe in yourself and don't give up. You're on the right track.

Interesting stuff, think Toney hasnt got a snow ball in hells chance of winning – but that punch power in those tiny UFC mits has to be taken into consideration…if he has KO power in 14 ounce boxing gloves then that is worrying to think what he could do given a lucky shot. Chances are he's going to take a beating like you say if it goes to the floor. Not sure if I buy any of the PR line that Toney has been in MMA training for 9 months…certainly doesnt look that way in the video.

Good to hear from you Candyman!
