Is a Water filled or sand/towel filled heavy bag best?
I'm planning on purchasing a 80 - 100lb heavy bag and have not figured out the pros or cons to a sand/towel filled heavy bag and a water filled (with foam padding) heavy bag. Has anyone used both? Did you have a preference? Any help would be much appreciated. I'll be mounting the bag from the rafters and not purchasing a free standing bag.
I have come down to two different bags to choose from (Everlast 100lb Nevatear Worldwide Heavy Bag or the Everlast 80lbs Water Heavy Bag). Thanks!
I'll be using a hand wrap and heavy bag gloves. My hands should be protected just fine. Since I have not had a chance to hit both of them before making a purchase, I wanted to see if any others have an opinion on it.
Definitely go with a sand/towel bag. You will be wrapped up and wearing gloves so your hands should be fine. I have a lot of boxing experience and having hit many heavy bags I think that a water bag is not a good way to go. It may move funny with your punches and at least with a sand bag if you have it for a long time and it starts to crack or get a hole, you can fix it with some duct tape or masking tape. With a water one you couldn't do that.
Yeah now that I am thinking about it, I am willing to bet that a sand bag would have a longer life then a water bag.
