For professional MMA fighters, a regulation 4oz glove would do.

For backyard brawling, gloves are not needed, it's usually done bare-knuckle; but I suggest you try brass knuckles, if they are spiked it's better (gene pool cleansing).

I've been wondering, which of these MMA gloves would be ideal:?

Open palmed MMA gloves, Closed palmed, thumb, no thumb, or any other I haven't mentioned. and why?
I've been fighting with open palmed myself, but I've ben wondering if it would be beneficial to make the transition.

open palm is better because than you can grab your opponent

   Indeed but lets face it, a lot of folks over there like to say one more thing so that when you fail to respond they can feel like they sure showed you boy howdy and put one in the win column.    A bullet is moving a supersonic or near supersonic speeds. There have been "cars" that can do that and I bet they will pierce a person quite nicely. Then again, they don't have the grill of your standard Ford.

   As for a person, I saw a study done on this that showed a human cannot pierce the skin all the way through. It's an issue of surface area as well as speed. The force of the impact would cause the victim to move away from the attacker. Unless they were strapped to a pole or something.

   Try it yourself if you can get hold of a pig from a local butcher and try to do a sword hand through his belly.
