Cut thumb open all around and got 11 stitches,?

I cut my thumb open almost all the way around with scissors. I ended up in the ER with 11 stitches. I just moved to another state and don't have medical insurance. I got cut also through the part where the thumb bends. How do I take care of it and can I take the stitches out myself?

Take care of the incision site by keeping the area clean. You can take the dressing off in a day or so and leave it open to air. Use a little neosporin after you clean the area. This will help to keep bacteria from setting up an infection. Go back to the ER or an area clinic in 7-10 days to get the sutures removed...You don't need to take them out yourself. You will be able to bend your thumb after the sutures are out.
