Punching Bag Mma Thinking of buying a punching bag? Any tips on which I should buy?
I want to start hitting the bag and thinking about buying a punching bag at the Academy store this weekend and was just wondering on which bag I should buy. Maybe those Everlast bags or possibly the UFC 100 lbs. bag? Of course I'm going to buy hand wraps, a pair of boxing gloves, and a pair of MMA gloves. What do you think? Is it ok to hit it everyday?
Sure. Bag work is great whenever. I'm a big fan of the hanging canvas bags (without the water bladder - should have chaff). I use a 100 lb bag myself and this rig jumps and reacts the way a person would when it gets hit. The chaff gives a bit so the bag folds over when hit, creating some interesting follow-up opportunities.
I really hate the water-filled ones. First of all, they leak after a few months of heavy use (even the best ones) and they are too stiff for my tasted. Also, I really hate the water filled bases. Those bags don't react well.

SPEED BAG DRILL FOR BOXING AND MMA FIGHTERS by JOE PRACTICE®
I take out a portion and put it in a bowl, that way you're not sticking your hand into the bag contaminating the rest that you don't eat (nor being disturbed by the “noise”). why are people so stupid?
BRILLIANTLY SIMPLE MUSIC BRINGING BACK MEMORIES OF OVER 70 YEARS AGO WHEN I LAUGHED AT THE WORD “BUM”, NOT KNOWING THEN THAT IT MEANT SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO WHAT I WAS THINKING! AH, THE GOOD OL DAYS. IF ONLY WE COULD GO BACK.
Well first of all, you should know that cage fighting is not untapped, face-shredding flurries of adrenaline. It is, despite everything TV says about it, very intricate and strategy based. It is not the Kumite from "Blood Sport" where different exotic martial artists come to fight Jean Claude Van-Damme for his golden shorty shorts. You need classes, otherwise you WILL lose in the octagon.
That being said, you need to talk to a fight promoter (they work closely with MMA gyms) and they will speak with the gym's coaches to decide whether or not you are ready for your first fight, or if you are just going to walk away with some hefty doctor's bills and a mark against the gym's win/loss record. Or you can claim that you are self-trained, walk into the octagon, and get tapped out because you have never seen a kimura before. Despite how it may sound, I do hope that this helps your decision.
