hsa anyone built a heavy bag(punching bag) stand out of wood?

I think a 4 or 5 inch think circular wood frame could easily hold the required weight/force? but the base is the question. the models sold in stores only work with heavy weights placed on the legs, so I want to anchor my beam into the base that ive yet to deside on. could I use an 8x8 2 inch think wood base? think of a 6'6'' wooden pole, with a wood extension (2-3 feet out) the bag would hang from. screwed into the 8x8' 2''think base, with smaller beam support legs. I think that i can stand and move around on the base using my body weight to help stop the base from moving (grips under the basecould be added. ) has anyone had luck with this?
I have a steal unit that i used to use. what if i drilled it onto a platform? my metal stand works, but is less than stable if your throwing combos at the bag.

I agree with freak boy. The stand we have we had made & it (4x4 hollow steel beams) still moves when hitting combos even though it took several grown men to put it in place. If you can't have some one hold the bag while you train I too suggest you use a "combo" of materials both wood &steel its still going to be hard to get it stable enough for combos if you have any PSI behind the hits. Happy hitting!!!

PS the welder cost a fortune!!Made me want to take up MMA!! JK ( i do box some though you have to in this house!!!)

   Hmm, hard to say how much cement per bag. Very roughly I’d say you’d get at least five gallons from a 60lb bag of ready-mix. So you want something serviceable for regular use. Have you priced out the orange cones? Could easily be worth it. You could use a smaller concrete base if you wanted. Half a gallon, like a plastic ice-cream tub, would be fairly stable. You could put a slip fitting right above the top of the base and slide the upper section of pipe on and off for transport. You could also just go find some nice sturdy dimensional wood, maybe from your local recycled building materials place. Cut it into squares – a 12″ x 12″ square would be fairly sturdy from surface area. Attach the pipe to it with a pipe flange, or fabricate a makeshift flange of some sort.

   its normal just try bending it around youll have to break it in try bending it back in forth in C shapes and Os backwards and forwards works really well to break it in
