i want to take tae kwon do, as well as another martial art?

Ok so i want to take TKD but i understand its mosly effective from a distance, once a trained opponent gets in close you dont stand much of a chance, what would be the best (Punch focused) MA to combine with TKD?

TKD is not mostly effective from a distance. In fact, TKD teaches how to deal with opponents of different sizes and from different distances. From what you understand is the misconcept of TKD, as most people (including many TKD instructors) think, that TKD is only good in kicks and their hands are like chicken wings. But bear in mind that in TKD, there are 2 aspects, martial arts (this is used in self defense, street fighting) and sport TKD (the stuff you see in the Olympics). So basically if you practice TKD you already practice both hand and leg techniques, therefore eliminating the need to practice another martial art to effectively use both your hands and legs.

Your protect/explosion combo is unoriginal, and other players both anticipate and expect an explosion on the first turn. Besides, the proper way to use that combo is to have a ghost type instead, with something like nasty plot. Explosion won't hurt the ghost and kill the enemy, and the ghost will have a free turn to set up and double his special attack.
Togekiss is a really good special attacker but quite poor defensive-wise, so that follow me will last one turn, and quite possibly faint to the first attack and cause the second attack to land on the snorlax and ruin his focus. You should get a Clafable with magic guard instead of Togekiss, since you apparently want to belly drum and rest up.
Two of the most popular moves in the battling scene are earthquake and ice beam. Only one of your team members isn't weak to these two critical moves, snorlax, but he's gonna cut his life in half with that belly drum, so you're gonna be in for some massive hit point loss.
Rhyperior has sandstorm. That's great and all, but how many of your teammates benefit from it? Metagross? But isn't he both opening and exploding?
Fly is useless. Since it's two turns, you're basically telling your opponent HEY GO AHEAD AND SWITCH TO A COUNTER I PROMISE TO HIT YOU WITH FLY.
