10 years of Krav here. The civilian system is designed for the average person to become reasonably proficient in a small amount of time, so as to defend against a certain amount of common attacks on the street long enough to survive and escape. It’s bare bones training for those who don’t have a lot of time on their hands to train. The law enforcement and military versions are pretty much the same, except LE train for ultimate objective of controlling a suspect and military train with their rifles with the objective of, obviously, killing their target. Anyone who thinks civilian Krav is designed to make the average person defeat trained fighters is plain delusional. It’s become very watered down in recent years. There used to be plenty of quality assurance from the mainstream organizations (IKMF, KMAA), but now they’re more interested in raking in the cash, so they certify a whole bunch of aerobics instructors who just don’t seem to get the mentality of the system, and end up doing a fitness-oriented class with sloppy technique and little to no stress/aggression training, so they can cater to rich housewives who don’t want to ruin their manicures. I’ve seen this first hand, and I have trained with some of these instructors. It’s a joke. That’s not to say you can’t find a place that teaches solid Krav and good skills, but caveat emptor. Personally, I’m done with mainstream Krav, and polishing up my striking and grappling with Muay Thai, BJJ and MMA. There comes a time for everyone when you feel like you’ve gotten all you can out of a particular system. There are still some hardcore israeli instructors out there, like Itay Gil, who could make me feel like a complete beginner again, but exposure to that caliber of instructors is very limited.

The percentages of the competent fighters in Muay Thai outnumber the fighters in TKD. Overwhelmingly you'll find more competent and skilled fighters in M.Thai merely because they train for competative fighting. Of course you'll find great fighters in TKD, but they'll be fewer and harder to find.
