The emancipation proclamation?
I am in U.S. History and I am making a powerpoint presentation on the Emancipation Proclamation..
I am a little confused, because in the text book it says it was for the slaves rebelling against the union and on the internet sights I have been researching is that they were to set the slaves free in the union side and that it would also be for the confederates as well.. I don't understand why it would apply to the confederate side if it is for the union.
Help please.
Thank you
There are two things happening. One at the time of the emancipation proclamation the states of the Confederacy had not yet seceded from the union so everything would have applied equally North and South. The second thing is that even after the split the Union viewed it as an illegal activity and not a valid split so every law passed would impact the confederate states the same as the union, the Confederacy, however, did not agree as they were attempting to set up their own nation.

The Rebel Set $5.86 A standard crime story with a dash of a disillusioned generation of men thrown in for good measure, The Rebel Set, also known as Beatsville, is about an armored car hold-up. Mr. Tucker (Edward Platt) is the man who comes up with the idea and plan of how to carry out the robbery, and he recruits three men who are down on their luck. John Mapes (Gregg Palmer), is an out-of-work actor, Ray Miller (John Lupton) is a writer who cannot get published, and George Leland (Don Sullivan) is the wastrel son of a has-been movie star. Tucker should have thought twice about who he was recruiting -- if these men have failed at life so far, why should they succeed in something as daring as a million-dollar robbery? ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi |
