Wrestled for most of my life as the smaller guy in heavier classes. Always managed to beat bigger heavier guys without any issues. Ive also trained in boxing for a number of years. I'm 5'10 220 pounds.I'm not fat just very big in the arms, neck ,shoulders and legs as a result of lifting weights over the years. I want to fight mma at heavyweight but also think a cut to 205 or 185 might be more realistic. Any thoughts?
If I were you I'd try to get down to 205 for competition. Nothing wrong with adding more cardio to your game to drop a couple pounds.
This guide to the finer points of boxing provides the wisdom needed to make the transition from enthusiastic beginner to proficient pugilist. Strategies for boxing against tall and short opponents as well as for a variety of fighting styles such as charger, speed-demon, stick-and-move, and slugger and brawler are discussed in detail. Specific drills focus on sophisticated ring stratagems such as throwing complex combinations, cutting off the ring, fighting off the ropes, generating power, and cornering an opponent are included.

MMA clothing? What shirts do you wear?
I just started taking MMA classes and all my friends wear underarmor like shirts. Not exactly underarmor but shirts of similar material and there tight so they don't get in the way and there easier to roll with. They all say they just get them at Big 5 but I went and all I saw that was like it was underarmor and they were all eather to short or to big. How do I tell what size I am and are they supposed to be short? I want them to be really tight fitting could someone point out a specific brand and where to get them or what to ask for? Please need help with this so lost. Also with boxing and and wrestling not my main question but where can I get good shorts that are good to fight in?
They're wearing 'rashguards.' It's basically like underarmour, but thicker. It's meant to prevent mat burn, wick sweat, and serve as a layer between your skin and some elses (for hygiene purposes). You can just search 'grappling rashguard' to find that. Or, for a cheaper alternative, you can buy compression shirts (which is what under armour is) from walmart. Nike, Adidas, Athletic Works, and other companies sell them for far less than under armour. I've bought plenty of them for only 9 dollars.
As for shorts, I'd go with MMA fight shorts. They're pretty comfortable and uninhibiting. For training, I use soccer shorts but for competition, I use fight shorts.
www.agonyathletics.com has the cheapest fight shorts I've ever seen. Check that out.
I understand where you are coming from, however to me it all hinges not on the boxers build or style as much as on the MMA fighters ability to shoot a take down. If you are a pro boxer of any sort of elite status like the ones you mentioned then you have trained pugilism to the exclusion of other aspects of combat. The boxers stance and reflexive conditioning is simply not conducive to stuffing a take down by anyone with even a decent shot, size and body type not withstanding. remember that a lot of wrestlers that you see from high school all the way up to the olympics have the Tyson Tua build and they get taken down all the time. In an MMA fight I feel like a boxers best, certainly not only because a lot can happen in a fight, but best chance of winning is to score a KO before the MMA fighter even attempts to take the fight to the ground.
