What were some of the best short fights in boxing history? (6 rounds or less)?

Folks like to say Hearns-Hagler and I agree with that fight. Especially the first round which was action packed. There was more action in that one round than most fights have in ten. But why not Hearns-Roldan? That was a pretty exciting fight. Also try Iran Barkley vs. Michael "the Silk" Olajide Jr. That was an underrated fight if I ever saw one. Tim Littles vs. Frankie Liles II three round war was a see-saw match-up. Since we are on the subject of Thomas Hearns what about his three round classic with Iran Barkley? That fight gets overlooked. Terry Norris vs. Simon Brown was a short fight, a beauty and a great upset all rolled in one.

An earlier Bernard Hopkins title defense against top ranked and dangerous contender Joe Lipsey rarely gets mentioned but it was a thrilling fight for four rounds. That Hopkins uppercut which stunned Lipsey still gives me the shivers! One fight is Mike McCallum vs. Donald Curry. A pretty good action fight and the left hook which ended it in the fifth round belongs to the ESPN highlight reel. Tommy Morrison vs. Razor Ruddock was a shoot-out. It was a brawl replete with knockdowns galor. Morrison was stunned, hurt, dazed and injured and suffered two knockdowns but still came back in the fifth round to win it with a few seconds remaining the six.

   This guy has some good criticisms of MMA:

   Even the spectacularly effective throwing techniques of Greco-roman wrestling and judo are rendered moot in MMA, because of the soft springy floor.

   The oft-repeated forumula, that MMA “combined the best of all martial arts”, that is joke. MMA is contradiction in terms, since it is NOT a martial art, although it is a sport that mixed some techniques from previously separate sports. The fact is, the first few UFC competitions changed everything, by firmly establishing that ju-jitsu style submission techniques dominated the striking-only arts.

   Early MMA also proved that the striking arts are MOST effective at breaking hands, not winning fights. Countless fighters ended tournaments with broken hands, broken while hitting their opponents’ heads. The gloves they use now are to advantage those boxing techniques. In short, boxing needs multiple subsidies to survive in a competitive environment, in the form of gloves, sprung floors, and no clothes.
