Short Trunks Satin
Saving money on horsey things?
So as some of you may know, horses are expensive but there are some short cuts that can be taken. What kind of "short cuts" do you take? Some example I do are:
- Plastic tubs instead of fancy tack trunks
- Human combs from the dollar store instead of fancy mane combs
- Off brands like Satin Sheen instead of Show Sheen
So im sorry if you confused.... basically what do you do to make horses cheaper and what can you find at the local dollar store to use instead of fancy dover stuff?
i do everything you do except i use healthy hair instead of show sheen haven't tried the satin sheen
i also: make my own fly spray (vinegar, water, and dish soap), make my own polo wraps with fleece and velcro (found at local fabric store), i use baby oil gel instead of fancy face make-up for show day shine on the nose and eyes, in the past my mom made my show shirts but now i buy them because she doesn't know how to do the French collar and cuffs, i use corn starch on any white markings and take a towel and rub off the extra so there's no visible powder just extreme white, i also buy suave shampoo (same ingredients as the horse, just cheaper and has a perfume smell), instead of silver/metal cleaner i use toothpaste (it cleans and doesn't rust the metal), and to get rid of rust i use a salt/vinegar mixture and a scrubbing pad, i use household cleaners to disinfect buckets/blankets instead of bucket wash or blanket wash, i make my own horse treats instead of buying a $20 bag that lasts a week (over exaggeration), for my english hunt coat i went out and bought a boys suit coat and my mom tailored it to fit just like a hunt coat, i buy cheap walmart dress pants for showmanship pants, i made my own rope halter and lead, i made my own draw reins (i was training a friend's horse and didn't have $ for real ones so i bought $2 worth of clips and used rope i had at home, it worked great!! except for the rope burns...old bike gloves fixed that :p i now have my own pair), when i wanted black spur straps i painted my dark brown ones using black hoof polish 
it surprisingly works lol sorry it's long lol hope this helps!!!
