Are you surprised about the furor over Towel Gate?
I'm listening to ESPN radio last evening and their Sports Center announcer reports on the "indident" where 2 Titans including Lendale White stomped on a terrible towel as if they should be indicted for a crime. They even said Coach Fisher "down played" the "incident" when questioned about it.
When was the terrible towel elevated to a status where everyone including fans and players from other teams are required to respect it and treat it with dignity at all times even in opposing teams stadiums?
I can actually see Pittsburgh people being upset as it relates to Myron Cope angle. Like Art Fucenda even I as a non-Steelers fan appreciate the guy. Having said that coming to an opposing teams stadium and waving the towel around can appear like taunting. I like most people didn't know about the Myron Cope connection.
The Titan aren't the Bengals.
As soon as it happened, I knew ESPN was going to play it for everything it was worth. I'm surprised they haven't had Dr. Joyce Brothers on talking about how "unfair" this kind of behavior is.

Not at all. They want to be one of the guys, they shouldn't get special treatment.

During the 1970s when the Steelers were winning four Super Bowls in six years, one of their announcers, Myron Cope, who's now a Pittsburgh icon, told all the fans to bring towels to the game so they could wave them around and inspire the team. Now you can get the original "Terrible towel" in either yellow like it was back then or now they have black ones as well. Teams in major league sports like to copy one another so I guess that's why you see the towel thing happening so many places.
