Choosing a Martial Art?
Hello. I am slender and five feet, six inches tall and it's not looking like I'll surpass five foot eight. I am looking for a future career as some kind of foreign "officer" (think espionage) for the government.
I am wondering which martial art would be best for me? I'll need self defense more than cultural heritage and fancy techniques. I've made a makeshift list of what looks good: Muay Thai, Hapkido, Aikido, Wushu, Judo, Kung Fu and Krav Maga.
What should I do?
I am 15. Is Aikido good for shorter people? Also, I do not think that I will be doing Ninjutsu, sorry.
aikido has a saying
''never has it been such an advantage to be short''
however it may have just been for the time because bjj says
''in gracie jiu jitsu the little guy gets a chance and no matter what the position there is always a way out''
so lookin into those might be nice
my buddy is becomeing an officer hes about your age he does jeet kune do and will soon end and start training in wado ryu and aikido[but he cares more for the arts and the way]
for an officer hapkido is awesome it is like a blend of korean strikig and aikido if u look and compare
muay thai is deadly brutal so that could be useful
krav mage is nice
like nice
like isreali govt uses it and they have possibly the most respected military in the world and i belive eryone there who is an adult has 2 years of krav maga and military service
judo is nice kind of passive liek aikido but with a hint of aggeression
kung fu varies
id say look more into
krav maga
hapkido
or
judo
in that order if ur only interest is defence and government stuff

I am a 2nd degree blackbelt in karate. It is a very spiritual discipline and what I study is not full contact.
I also kickbox and have done so competetively for the past 5+ years. Full contact!
I am 43 years old.

YES I THINK MAIN KWONG's TASTE BETTER.
No, they may not have as much variety.. obviously no THAI… or fancy Sushi, but for the comparable items… YES it taste better. TO ME. The Oil adding flavor – well maybe not, but I simply mean that in general, the more lard – usually the more tastier. (just a rule of thumb – ie, a deep fried wing tastes better than a baked one, deep fried french fries, are tastier than baked ones, buttered popcorn is better to me than that fake butter powder)
PLUS it's cheaper and for me that is also a plus. A BIG PLUS.
As for the strength of this blog – well what's yours? If you have a link toss it out there. As for anyone getting anything wrong, it's hard to do when you're simply writing opinions. (albeit, I do plenty of misspellings and typo's for 10 bloggers much less 6)
As for this little interchange – well persononally I consider it “content”, and thus has entertainment value, and plus I have nothing better to do. Maybe I'll go eat at TOA again, and find something I don't like and write about it and we can have another. It will be so fun.
Enjoy the blog….. and more importantly, get out and go enjoy the 4th.

If I were to rank these from most effective to least effective in a real life fighting situation, here's how I would do it:
1. Muay Thai
2. Kickboxing
3. Ninjitsu (If you can find the REAL thing)
4. Wing Tsun Kung Fu (Also called Wing Chun)
5. Tae Kwon Do
6. Hapkido
7. Tang Soo Do
8. Judo
9. Tai Chi Chuan
and last but definatly the least:
10. Aikido (With the exception of the style of Steven Segal. He has some good stuff in there)
Try and find a martial art that covers everything: Punching, Kicking, Knees, Elbows, Weapons, Grappling, etc.
Filipino Martial Arts are good for that.
