Thai Kick is the muay thai leg kick a good self defence kick?
i heard that enough of them can stop the attackers movement, but can it do that on the street?
99% of the time the guy will will be defending yourself from is going to be an average, most likely drunk, man that is not expecting a kick at all.
Yes it will work. Any kick should work. A kick, in most fighting styles, is a first line of defense and your longest attack as far as range. The average person is going to pretend they know how to box and hold their hands by their face, or just run at you. A kick should work.
That being said, don't get in a street fight. 99.99999999% of the time you can see a fight coming and defuse it or leave. A street fight ends in jail time, or serious injury.
Even an un-trained attacker can have a knife or some buddies.

There's no magic. The key is to practice proper technique. There is no better way to develop a kick than to kick the heavy bag and thai pads a few million times with perfect form. If you have good technique the power will develop. All the little things add to power. Turning your shoulder in, swinging your arm,proper hip rotation,not snapping your knee, pivoting your foot and many other factors. If you have a good trainer he can watch you and tell you what you're doing wrong. Weights on the ankle is a terrible idea for muay thai. I can't imagine throwing my shin into a heavy bag with a weight on it. It would probably kill your shins and ankles. I have seen guys use those workout bands around their ankles

Tony Torres-Aponte is an advanced black belt under Royce Gracie (used to train in the Torrance garage in the 80s and 90s), and kickboxing guru. I’ve been going for almost two years and I highly reccommend it.
