How do you train the uppercut in boxing?
The punch always feels like a punch that should end up going straight up right under the chin. As such I have never felt right doing the uppercut on the traditional heavy bag or the so called angled uppercut bags which mean you have to punch either at horizontal or at 45 degrees. Suggestions please?
The uppercut is a kind of punch that is best to train with a trainer. When punching a punching bag using the uppercut, it should be situated at the 'body' because eventually when you throw an uppercut on the body, the head will follow and then the uppercut to the head will be much easier. Uppercuts are best at the side of the body so you should train punching at the 'ribs' of the punching bag kind of like how Mike Tyson throws his body shots. Just make sure your uppercuts are high enough not to cause a low blow.
When you train throwing uppercuts to the head, you don't have to hit the punching bag, just as long as it is very close. For example, you can throw a left uppercut on the air and then follow it by a right hammering hook on the punching bag.
Thanks Eugene. Amateur boxing is the future of the sport and is far too often overlooked here in the states. With the traditional boxing gym going the way of the Dodo, it's important to support boxing programs as much as we can.
If I was born in this country but my father and my mother were born in Africa, and my one Grandmother was also born in Africa, but we are all white and have ancestors from the UK? Am I an Afro-American??? Who should I date? Could I date you? Age and other factors such that it would be practical. Why not date whom ever you care to?
