Training Sanshou
possible to cross train in Muay thai,Sanshou,Boxing and ShotokanKarate? if so what would come out of it?
I have experience in Boxing and Muay thai and thinking about getting involved in both shotokan karate and san shou both look very interesting
I would limit myself to one martial art at a time. You will risk burn out by doing too much at one time. You won't be able to devote yourself fully to either one also. This will hurt your growth in both arts if you divide your time. I wouldn't recommend that.
I think to just pick one, San Shou, will be better for you. San shou will be easier and more natural for you to do because of your Boxing and Muay Thai experience. The main thing you will have to learn is the throwing part of it. It will always work better for you because it is full-contact and your used to that.
Shotokan Karate is ok. But, I don't think it would fit you as well. It's kicks and punches will be different than what you have learned already. It might be frustrating to rewire your mind to a different way. Also, Shotokan Karate doesn't do full-contact sparring or competition (as far as I know). It probably doesn point or 3-step sparring instead. Both of which will probably frustrate you because of you being used to full-contact.
San Shou is a much better fit for you. Don't worry about Shotokan. I'm not sure why you are considering it really. If it is because of Lyoto Machida I wouldn't worry about it. Machida is the exception not the rule for making Shotokan work in MMA. You would do well in San Shou with all your ring experience.
